Parker has been teaching guitar, theory, composition, and improvisation in private and group settings for over 12 years.

I have developed a comprehensive curriculum for all types of students and have taught university students, young teens and adults. I am prepared to offer both in-person and virtual meetings for all settings. I am based out of the Northern Virginia region, but am accessible to students in Washington D.C. and Maryland. Head on over to my contact page to set something up, or email me at parker@parkerspeirs.com.

A little more about my teaching philosophy and approach:

I have a deep interest in jazz and improvisation, in addition to a deep technical and theoretical background in rock, metal, pop, and classical music. All of these elements have boiled down to a holistic approach of how I think about music. Regardless of your genre interests, I place a lot of importance on understanding the mechanics of harmony, time, and ear training, how those principles apply to the guitar, and bringing this all together via a rigid technical facility of the instrument. While I certainly have my own interests as a player and composer which inevitably spill into my teaching, my goal is to provide students with tools that will help them hone in on their interests. While there is plenty of overlap in the materials I use with students, there is also a lot of attention given to the distinct needs of each individual. As such, everyone’s experience will be unique.

Mastery in music is a lifelong pursuit, and my goal as a teacher is to connect students more deeply to this art form in a myriad of ways so that playing and thinking about music can always be an enriching experience.

The Musician’s Musician Podcast

I co-host The Musician’s Musician Podcast in an effort to raise awareness about artists who may be flying under the radar of the general public. It can be hard to know where to start if you’re curious about getting into jazz, or metal, or indie, or electronic, or whatever. Max and I go over the basics of different artists – some biographical background, philosophical underpinnings, what to expect from the music, and some recommendations – so that you can jump into a new listening journey well-informed. This is targeted at a non-specialist audience, so you don’t have to worry about matters getting too technical.
